Hydrosalpinx

A condition in which the fallopian tubes are blocked and filled with fluid is termed as Hydrosalpinx and is derived from two words Hydro means water and salpinx refers to fallopian tube.
A hydrosalpinx is the medical name for a fallopian tube that has become filled with fluid due to injury or infection. Damage to this tiny and delicate passageway can inhibit conception and pregnancy

Hydrosalpinx Causes

Hydrosalpinx commonly results from a long-untreated infection in the fallopian tubes. A number of situations may lead to fallopian tube infection, including:

* Abdominal surgery

* Scarred appendicitis

* Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

* Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

* Endometriosis

* Tuberculosis

How does this affect your fertility?

To get pregnant, sperm must meet an egg. Around day 14 of a woman’s menstrual cycle, an egg is released from an ovary and begins its travels down to the uterus to the waiting sperm. If a tube or tubes are blocked, the egg can’t make the journey and pregnancy can’t occur.
Furthermore, the fluid building up in the fallopian tube may overflow into the uterus, making it more difficult for a fertilized egg to achieve implantation.

Pregnancy and Hydrosalpinx

Technically speaking, it is possible to conceive with just one open tube, as may be the case if you have one hydrosalpinx tube and the other is healthy. However, the delicate environment of the uterus may be affected with a hydrosalpinx and this reduces pregnancy rates.

The irritation and/or adhesions associated with the hydrosalpinx seem to reduce the possibility of conception occurring via the healthy tube. It’s also possible that the fluid buildup inside the affected tube may leak into the uterus, impacting embryo implantation.

Symptoms

In many cases, hydrosalpinx produces no symptoms. However, when symptoms are present, the chief complaint is pelvic pain. Some women are unaware of their condition until they seek help for fertility problems. Common symptoms include

* Infertility

* Aching, constant pain in the lower abdomen

* Increasing pain during and after a period

* Vaginal discharge

How is hydrosalpinx diagnosed?

Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) (x-ray)

The doctor will inject a special liquid that shows up on an x-ray into your uterus through your cervix (neck of the womb) and then take an x-ray (called a hysterosalpingogram or HSG) to see where the liquid goes. If your fallopian tubes are open, the liquid will flow out of the ends of the tube into the pelvic cavity. If the tubes are blocked, the liquid will be trapped and your doctor will be able to tell that you have a hydrosalpinx. However, this test can sometimes falsely suggest that the tubes are blocked and sometimes results can be difficult to interpret. For more information about HSG, please see the ASRM fact sheet titled Hysterosalpingogram (HSG).

Ultrasound

Your doctor may be able to detect the presence of a hydrosalpinx on ultrasound. If your tube appears enlarged on ultrasound through transvaginal sonography (TVS), this usually indicates a more severe hydrosalpinx.

Treat Hydrosalpinx Without Surgery

In modern science you will be suggested to undergo surgery but before going for this you must try connecting with an ayurvedic doctor and know that the treatment for Hydrosalpinx is available in ayurveda.

Side Effects Of Surgery Includes:

There are glands in fallopian tube which creates watery fluid this fluid when trapped in tubes causes Hydrosalpinx however cause for this is not so clear, even though this is a laparoscopy surgery still there are side effects for the same which includes:

* Adhesions

* Damage to nerves

* Blood clots

* Problem when passing urine

* Damage to the bladder, uterus and other organs of reproductive systems.

Ayurvedic Treatment For Hydrosalpinx

Treatment includes snehana, swedana, virechana, uttara basti and dhoopan chikitsa.

Snehana

This is Snehana, or Oleation Therapy, an integral process that prepares the body to receive specialized Panchakarma treatment in Ayurveda.It involves the application of medicated oils, ghee and herbs to the body for three to seven days. This treatment is crucial as it loosens the Amam, or toxins, and Doshas in the body, thereby facilitating their expulsion during the initial stage of treatment.

Virechana:

Virechana therapy is defined as the medicated purgation therapy, which cleanses the Pitta and purifies blood, by clearing the toxins from the body. The treatment concentrates on the toxins that are accumulated in the liver and gallbladder. The gastro-intestinal tract is also cleansed by Virechana therapy.

Uttara basti:

Uttara Basti implies the intrauterine installation of medicated oils or decoctions. Uttara basti with medicated oil is the best ayurvedic treatment for hydrosalpinx. The herbs are selected according to the patient’s need. Before performing uttara basti the peri vaginal area is sterilized with certain decoction.

* Uttarbasti is performed on the 6th day of the cycle.

* We can cure Hydrosalpinx through Uttarbasti without undergoing surgery.

* Uttarbasti is a painless process.

* Women who undergo uttarbasti can come alone and have the treatment done and get back to their normal routine as well.

Dhoopan chikitsa:

In this therapy the procedure followed is Herbal fume inhalation. Reference of dhoopan can be traced to Vedic period and has been rooted in our traditions. All the Dhoopana substances are collected, dried, made into a coarse powder and put on fire to produce smoke.

Oral Medication:

Along with the above mentioned panchakarma procedure the patient is also recommended oral medication. If you believe you are experiencing symptoms of, or suffering from Hydrosalpinx, or have questions about it, please visit Dr Jyoti’s Clinic.
